Connecticut Academic Programs and Services

The Business & Industry Services Network (BISN) is a collaborative effort of Connecticut’s twelve Community-Technical Colleges. Utilizing the resources of the Community Technical Colleges, including an expert faculty, state of the art facilities and equipment, and extensive libraries, the BISN links business, industry, state government, and education. Specifically designed to meet the needs of Connecticut’s business and industry, the BISN provides a full range of educational and training services. Partially supported by tax dollars, the BISN maintains a very cost-effective fee schedule.

 Central Connecticut State University is a metropolitan, comprehensive public university dedicated to learning in the liberal arts and sciences as well as business and the professions. Central enrolls 11,600 undergraduate students and 2,500 graduate students through its School of Business, School of Technology, School of Arts and Sciences, School of Education, School of Graduate Studies and College of Continuing Education. Central has a stated mission to serve this region and Connecticut as an international center of excellence. As a result, the School of Business has developed the following programs: Undergraduate Degree in International Business, International MBA, sponsored programs for international training and education in business, student travel/study opportunities and faculty travel/research exchange programs.

 The China Resource Center of Central Connecticut State University conducts business management training courses for the Chinese clients of Connecticut companies. These courses are tailored to the needs of the Connecticut company, and are offered in Connecticut or in China. The China Resource Center also offers training to Connecticut managers and executives in cultural sensitivity and negotiation practices. They offer on-site Chinese, Vietnamese and Japanese language instruction to managers.

 Connecticut Center for Economic Analysis In operation since 1992, the Connecticut Center for Economic Analysis (CCEA) is an umbrella organization for The Connecticut Economy: A University of Connecticut Quarterly Review and the Forecasting and Analysis Group. The CCEA is based at the University of Connecticut and reports to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. As a University Center, the CCEA is a non-profit organization providing impartial analysis of the Connecticut economy.

 Capitol Region Education Council’s   nicely designed site is the high quality of links for the professional educator and public on topics ranging from Web surfing and HTML tutorials to adult education.

 Connecticut Student Loan Foundation offers complete information about student loans, and on-line ordering of applications and brochures. A useful one-stop resource.

 Connecticut State University System is Connecticut’s urban university system with four campuses founded in cities that offer expansive cultural, service and educational opportunities. We are an integral part of these communities and will continue and expand the services and activities we share with them. We will also increase public awareness and access to our campuses for cultural events designed with the community in mind, and make research and professional knowledge available to our communities.

 Connecticut Community Technical Colleges The CTC is comprised of twelve two-year public institutions of higher education that share a mission to make educational excellence and the opportunity for lifelong learning affordable and accessible to all Connecticut citizens. The colleges seek to enrich the intellectual, cultural and social lives of the communities they serve. Our Colleges support the economic growth of the state and its citizens through programs which supply business and industry with a skilled, well-trained work force.

Oh, there is a catalog of the university, too.

 Fairfield University’s site offers everything a student or prospective student might want to know, from academics to admissions to events. Its clear and elegant design serves the purpose admirably.

 The University of Hartford’s site is thorough and attractive, with an especially nice admissions section that features on-line  or printable admission forms

 The Manufacturing Applications Center part of Central Connecticut State University, has been assisting small companies and individuals, especially inventors and their new product ideas, with engineering, manufacturing, and rapid prototyping solutions. We are non profit and have been providing our services since 1993.

 Naugatuck Valley Community Technical College (formerly Waterbury State Technical College) posts a deep site with everything a prospective student needs to know to register – and to succeed. Check out the slide show introduction and the library section.

 Rensselaer runs short programs on countries and some documentation support programs. The university works closely with the Connecticut Quality Council and the district office of the Department of Commerce to hold programs on international trade issues at the university.

 Sacred Heart University’s opening page has a colorful aerial view of the campus, with a neat box of buttons superimposed. This well-organized site has plenty of useful information, even though some areas are under construction.

 Southern Connecticut State University’s site offers plenty of resources, including course catalogs and listings, alumni information, links to department pages and library databases, and telephone and e-mail directories. There are also resources on athletics, career services, and campus and community events.

 St. Joseph College offers an international studies major which provides an inquiry and issues-based outlook on the global community. Students combine core courses, a language requirement and study abroad, with a concentration in one of three areas: Economy/Polity and Society, Languages and Cultures, or Self-Designed. Saint Joseph College has exchange agreements with schools in the Netherlands, Japan, Australia and England, and has sent students to study in France, Spain, Italy, India and Guatemala.

 Trinity College is loaded with content, from informational and recruitment materials to cafeteria menus and course schedules, in an appealing and easy-to-navigate format. The virtual tour and the “101 Things To Do: Hartford Sites and Attractions” are especially interesting.

 Tunxis Community Technical College The web site for Tunxis Community Technical College is deeply detailed and richly linked. The sidebar makes navigating easy and the main index is extremely detailed. Warning – don’t enter the library section unless you have lots of time to browse. It’s seductive.

 University of Bridgeport  has a comprehensive site covering rates, dorm facilities, residence rules and the like. Spanish, Korean and Japanese versions are less extensive.

 The University of Connecticut recognizes the vital importance of research to the enrichment of teaching and the advancement of learning. In addition, it is the goal of the University to foster research as a key component of its tri-partite mission of teaching, research and public service. Further, the University strives to relate this research to the educational, social, cultural and economic development of the State of Connecticut.

 Western Connecticut State University offers loads of information on its site, useful to current or prospective students. It is well-organized with lots of links sprinkled through the text. The Internet resource section under the library is extensive.

 Yale University’s  Each section leads to a seemingly endless array of information, containing every kind of resource a major university would expect to offer. Given the breadth and depth of this site, the Yale Sampler is a nice idea.
