More than 50% of this new budget deal rests squarely on $2 BILLION in concessions from unions WHICH HAVE NOT YET BEEN NEGOTIATED?  And the General Assembly should pass it?  Now that’s responsible governing — NOT!!

David Y., Middlebury

Cut government spending. A common sense move that will clearly strengthen our state, for the future.  The public sector clearly needs to make dramatic changes. The private sector cannot continue to bear the burden. Accountability must be restored in the Government sector.

An accountable Connecticut legislature can easily find solutions to solve the current budget issues.
1.  Eliminate defined benefit pension plans for all state employees.
2.  Reduce the state workforce by 25%…across the board, including the state legislature.
3.  Aggressively outsource functions to private companies to further reduce the number of state employees, converting fixed costs to variable.
4.  Analyze and restructure revenue structure to assure taxation does not hinder economic development.
5.  Pass a law that aggressively caps government spending based on a reasonable measure (e.g., State Spending cannot be more than 5% of Gross State Product).

Accountability is one of the most important things. I think it’s very important that the politicians should be able to be accountable and if they don’t stand up to their word then they should be scrutinized and some kind of action should be taken against them.
