Description

As the economy begins to ramp up again, HR managers and other top leaders are looking for ways to get the most out of their employees and thrive in an unpredictable business climate. Join us for this series of  intimate conversations with authors who have explored the fields of business, economics, and human resources and can offer valuable insight into employee relations, business operations, and other critical workplace issues.

First Session
Working women and men are far more alike than often realized, and managers who understand that can develop lasting, productive gender equity at work. Come hear Alice Adams discuss this concept and her book Playing to Strength: Leveraging Gender at Work, a forward-thinking guide for managers and organizations who want to achieve the type of gender-balanced environment that brings out the best in both men and women.

About the Author
Alice Adams is Common Ground’s gender specialist. She offers a new, exciting perspective to this area of workplace diversity, a perspective based on solid science that shows men and women have a lot more in common than the pundits admit. On that basis, Alice helps organizations move toward a gender-balanced workforce and improve their recruitment and retention strategies. She speaks frequently at corporations across the country about gender, gender stereotyping of men and women, and how they relate to organizational effectiveness. Alice holds a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa and was formerly bye-fellow at Cambridge University, Rockefeller fellow at the University of Minnesota, and Director of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Maine, Farmington. In addition to Playing to Strength, Alice has authored two other books on gender and systems, including Shameless Propositions: Sexuality & Authority (June, 2010).
