 Description

CBIA is pleased to present the 2010-2011 Safety & Health Roundtable, an informative, fast-paced series designed to give you up-to-the-minute information on workplace safety management issues and regulations. It’s also a great opportunity for you to network with other safety and health professionals.

We’ll begin each session with an update where we’ll share observations, reports, and research on the latest developments and evolving enforcement initiatives coming out of Washington. The following are examples of information our updates will provide:

A recent memorandum to regional OSHA administrators from David Michaels, PhD, MPH, Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health, describes revisions to OSHA’s Field Operations manual penalty calculation system that will take effect in coming months. The stated purpose of these changes is to increase the overall dollar amount of all penalties to provide a greater deterrent and further encourage employers to furnish safe and healthy workplaces for employees. Which side of that equation do you want your business to be on?

OSHA is gathering information to develop a proposed rule for Injury and Illness Prevention Programs, a find-and-fix approach that many of you may already be using but would become mandatory and require documentation.

Because we know you want to keep costs down and maximize the value of your CBIA membership, we invite you to bring two additional colleagues from your company to any or all sessions at no additional charge. So if you have an assistant, or a backup person, safety committee members or others who share responsibility for workplace safety at your company—or possibly even senior managers who need to learn more about these issues, please bring them along.

Cost per company

CBIA members only.
Individual program, $75

Each year, Connecticut employers spend hundreds of millions of dollars on medical care and wage benefits for injured workers, in addition to interrupted production and increased insurance costs. Navigating the workers’ comp system isn’t always easy. Have you ever wondered:

  • How the workers’ comp system operates?
  • How your premium is priced and what causes it to increase?
  • How to handle light duty and the returning employee?
  • How to improve your safety committee?
  • How to best handle the claims process?

If any of these questions have crossed your mind, this program is for you. Hear from workers’ comp experts and legal experts about managing your workers’ comp program and controlling costs.

Meet John A. Mastropietro, chairman of the Connecticut Workers’ Compensation Commission, who will address ways to strengthen the Commission’s relationship with the business community.
