Description

Connecticut businesses are leaders in corporate social responsibility (CSR) and have demonstrated a strong commitment to good green business practices. More companies of all sizes have developed strategies to incorporate green principles into their workforce, operation, supply chain, and culture. These companies are no longer just recycling paper or eliminating waste in their facilities; they’re truly adding green value by taking their sustainability initiatives to the next level.

CBIA’s 2010 Sustainability Conference will showcase what companies from a wide array of industries are doing internally and externally at the Green Business 2.0 level.

 The half-day program will feature:
  • The release of CBIA’s 2010 Sustainability and Connecticut Business Survey
  • A keynote presentation on current trends and predictions for the future
  • Exhibits by Connecticut green businesses

Michael Ellis, Senior Associate, GreenOrder, leads the firm’s work with General Electric (GE). Since 2004, GreenOrder has been the principal strategic advisor to GE at the highest levels on the creation, implementation, and ongoing development of its award-winning, multi-billion dollar Ecomagination initiative.

Panel discussions

1. Green Technology—Today and Tomorrow
This panel will feature representatives from industry leaders such as GE, AT&T, Microsoft and IBM discussing what they are doing now and plan to do in the future in relation to sustainability on the product and service side, customer solutions, innovation, and CSR.

Panel includes 

  • Roman Smith, director-public affairs, corporate citizenship & sustainability, AT&T
    Roman’s role is to help move forward corporate citizenship and sustainability efforts that target areas where the needs of AT&T intersect with the needs of AT&T’s communities. 
  • Kent Cunningham, emerging technologies business development manager, Microsoft Corporation
    Kent is responsible for defining go-to-market strategies and product development roadmaps as influenced by, and tailored to meet, the unique requirements of customers in the public sector. His current focus is on creating highly available solutions which capitalize on the impacts of social networking, cloud computing, and open standards in the newly consumerized IT model.
  • Moderator: Michael Ellis, senior associate, GreenOrder

2. Sustainable Solutions Providers
This panel will feature representatives from the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund’s Business Sustainability Challenge, CT Clean Energy Fund, TelecommuteCT/CTRideshare and Oakleaf Waste Management.  Panelists will discuss what companies of any size and from any industry can do to enhance  their current green initiatives.

Panel includes

  • Jean Taylor Stimolo, executive director, Rideworks, Inc.
    As executive director of Rideworks, Inc., with offices in New Haven and Waterbury, Jean has managed the nonprofit commuter services company from its inception in 1984. Rideworks is  funded through the Connecticut Department of Transportation and is a partner in CT Commuter Services. Its core mission is traffic reduction, improved air quality, and providing transportation resources to the businesses of Connecticut.
  • Bob Wall, director of market initiatives, Connecticut Clean Energy Fund
    Bob develops and manages programs intended to increase consumer awareness of clean energy and its benefits to society. The Connecticut Clean Energy Fund promotes, develops, and invests in clean energy sources for the benefit of Connecticut ratepayers.
  • Marissa Westbrook, senior marketing representative, United Illuminating Co.
    Marissa is a senior marketing representative in the Conservation and Load Management department of United Illuminating (UI).  The United Illuminating Company (UI) is a New Haven-based regional electric distribution company established in 1899. UI is engaged in the purchase, transmission, distribution, and sale of electricity and related services to more than 324,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers in the Greater New Haven and Bridgeport areas.
  • Marc Okrant, vice president of marketing, Oakleaf Waste Management
    Marc has five years of experience in waste and recycling and over 20 years of experience working with large commercial businesses. He  is responsible for all aspects of marketing at Oakleaf. Oakleaf is leading the way in helping people manage waste more effectively by providing the best quality service and customer responsiveness in the industry through constant improvement and innovation with a bias toward action. 
  • Moderator: Patricia McCullough, Director of Corporate, Sustainability, Northeast Utilities
