John R. Rathgeber is president and chief executive officer of the Connecticut Business & Industry Association, the state’s leading business organization, with about 10,000 member companies.

The association works to promote a healthy business climate, supporting economic growth and job creation in the Connecticut.

Rathgeber also is president of CBIA’s Education Foundation, which supports STEM education in public schools and training programs that enhance the skill sets of employees at member companies.

Since joining CBIA in 1977 as staff attorney, Rathgeber has served in a number of positions for the organization including general counsel, executive vice president, and chief operating officer.

During his tenure at CBIA, he has served on a number of public sector committees, councils, and taskforces concerning the economy, fiscal policy, education, transportation, healthcare, and the environment.

Rathgeber is a member of the Board of Trustees of the New Britain Museum of American Art and serves on the boards of the Connecticut Council for Education Reform, the National Association of Manufacturers, the Connecticut Center for School Change, and the New England Legal Foundation.

Rathgeber received a political science degree from Colgate University in 1972. He then earned his law degree at Suffolk University Law School in 1976 and was admitted to the Connecticut Bar that same year.
