Lisa McGuire is the director of public affairs for The Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA). She is responsible for membership outreach and grassroots lobbying, including: ongoing meetings with members; facilitating member contacts with policy makers; and reaching member companies’ employees to encourage political activism, involvement and good citizenship. McGuire is also responsible for communication and collaboration with other business groups – at the state and federal levels.

CBIA, Connecticut ‘s largest business organization, represents over 10,000 companies. The Association works to promote a healthy business climate, which encourages economic growth and job creation in the state. By motivating and activating CBIA’s 10,000 members and their employees, CBIA can ensure that public policy makers understand the plight of business in our state.

Prior to joining CBIA in September 2003, McGuire was vice president of government and community affairs at People’s Bank in Bridgeport, where she was responsible for all political activities, including lobbying, and the political action committee (PAC). She was also responsible for corporate philanthropy, overseeing grants of nearly $2 million per annum. Before joining People’s, McGuire served on the staffs of Congresswoman Nancy Johnson and Senator Lowell Weicker – both in Washington – and the Connecticut Senate Minority Caucus in Hartford.

McGuire currently serves on the Hartford Area Child Care Collaborative (chair), the MetroHartford Chamber’s Legislative Committee (previous chair), and the board of the UConn Alumni Association. She has previously been on numerous boards and councils, including the Commission on Compensation of Elected Officials and Judges (legislative appointment), the board of Operation Respect CT, the Hartford School Readiness Council, and the Business Advisory Board of the Commission on Children, the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy, the Connecticut Child Day Care Council (chair), the Bridgeport School Readiness Council, the Children’s Trust Fund, the Connecticut Bankers Association Legislative Committee, and the Bridgeport Regional Business Council’s Legislative Committee. She is also a graduate of Leadership Greater Hartford and recipient of the Samuel Hawley Award for Public Service, People’s Bank’s highest distinction for community service.
